In today's society, the cell phone is a very HOT commodity. Everyone who is anyone has one, including children as young as 10. There is no secret that teenagers use the cellphone more socially then adults, but just how much do they use the cellphone? Here are some statistics.

80% of teens carry a cell phone

57% of teens say their cell phone is the key to their social life

47% say their social life would end without texting

42% of teens can text blindfolded

Now, you may say that you are not surprised by these statistics but let's compare that to the number of teens who pray.  According to the National Study of Youth and Religion, the statistics for teens praying are as follows:

40% of teens pray daily

22% of teens pray weekly

9% of teens pray monthly

20% of teens never pray

Why is the statistics for praying so much smaller? Maybe it's because teens may not understand the power of prayer or even why we pray. Prayer is be described in several ways.  Here are some descriptions of prayer that may help clarify what prayer is, why we pray, and how to pray, according to "Lifeway.com - KNOWN" documentation:

  1. Prayer is an intimate conversation of praise.  We must praise him every day, we must honor his name forever and ever. God is great and highly praised for his greatness.
Prayer is an intimate conversation of thanks. We should give thanks to the Lord for he is good. (Psalsls 107:1-2) He has told us that we must cast our cares on him and he will give us rest. For that, we can be thankful.
Prayer is an intimate conversation of confession. Tired of telling your friends your deepest secrets and they get out? Talk to God about your secrets, your sins, and then ask that he forgive you of those.  God already knows your
heart and he knows what you have done, but you must confess those things to him for forgiveness, and be sincere in your confession to him.
Prayer is an intimate conversation of supplication. You can turn to your mother and father for help as well as some of your friends; however, when you turn to God for help, you can rest assured that he will answer your request... in HIS way. It may not come when you want it or exactly how you asked for it, but it will come on time.
  2. So, while you are on the phone discussing information of a very important nature with your friends, remember that you should also take time to talk with God about your issues and concerns, and also to just offer up some praise and thanks for all the things that he has done and will do in your life.
